Maker Faire Wayne County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wayne County Mini\nMaker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention,\ncreativity and resourcefulness<\/strong> and a celebration of the Maker Movement. &nbsp;It\u2019s a place\nwhere people show what they are making and share what they are learning.&nbsp;\nMakers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to\ngarage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. over <strong>1,200 people<\/strong> flocked to the third annual faire at\nthe University of Akron Wayne College last May. &nbsp;It was a fresh experience\nwith <strong>favorite makers from last year<\/strong> coming back along with new makers and\nnew things to see and do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cleveland.makerfaire.com\/\">Maker Faire Cleveland<\/a><\/strong> is coming!&nbsp;\nVisit the Great Lakes Science Center on Saturday, November 2nd from 10:00-5:00\nfor the largest Maker Faire in our region. &nbsp;This year\u2019s Faire will have\nover <strong>150 Makers<\/strong> plus\nmultiple workshops and stages with performances in addition to Makers.&nbsp;\nMaker Faire Cleveland is FREE and open to the public.&nbsp; One of these people is <strong>Jonathan Michel<\/strong>.&nbsp; He and his dad built a fully functioning\nmarimba!&nbsp; During the Maker Faire, he assembled and played songs to the\ndelight of Faire goers and allowed attendees to try their hand at playing as\nwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonathan\u2019s four-octave\nmarimba is made from padauk and oak wood planks using a benchtop CNC Router at\nthe <strong>Romich Foundation Makerspace<\/strong> in Creston.&nbsp; He also used band\n&amp; circular saws, a drill, and a belt sander. &nbsp;It took almost <strong>nine months<\/strong> to complete the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/jon.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/jon.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/jon.jpg?resize=300,225 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jon Michel is a Junior\nat Wooster High School. &nbsp;He is in the International Baccalaureate programs\nand is active in Speech and Debate, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and is a\nvolunteer at Local Roots Food Coop and the Wooster Community Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another person who\nparticipated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is <strong>Chris Ryan of Ohio Fixed Wing Racing.<\/strong>&nbsp; Chris and friends brought and flew various drones at\nthe Faire to the delight of adults and children alike.&nbsp; Drones are\nbecoming more and more prevalent in our lives. &nbsp;At the Faire, his booth\nshowed various types of <strong>drones that are designed\nfor different purposes.<\/strong>\n&nbsp;Attendees had a fun time chatting with Chris to learn what drones and\nmodel aviation is all about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"943\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/drone.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/drone.jpg 943w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/drone.jpg?resize=300,172 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/drone.jpg?resize=768,440 768w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/drone.jpg?resize=425,243 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 943px) 100vw, 943px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ohio Fixed Wing Racing\nis a small group of flying wing racers. &nbsp;They attempt to get together once\na month to race each other. &nbsp;Find them on Facebook by searching &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/1054395594628542\/\">Ohio Fixed Wing Racing<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rounding out our\nparticipating makers is <strong>Melissa Scott of Young Living\nEssential Oils.<\/strong>&nbsp; At the Faire,\nMelissa displayed a selection of essential oils, a diffuser, sample jars to\nsmell, literature explaining uses of essential oils, <strong>DIY recipes<\/strong> to share of products that can be made with essential oils,\nand samples of oils to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/oils-1024x880.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12351\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/02\/IMG_0335-1-769x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12355\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Melissa is from\nOrrville, married, mother of 5 children, grandmother of 2. &nbsp;After\ncompleting 25 years of homeschooling, she now spends time caring for her\ngrandchildren, serving in her church and other ministries, and is an\nindependent distributor for Young Living Essential Oils. &nbsp;Melissa has\nalways been interested in natural ways to care for her health and home and\nfound essential oils to be a wonderful asset. &nbsp;She\u2019s been using them for\nfour years, finding many uses and health benefits, and sharing them with others\nlooking for the same!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone, The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness and a celebration of the Maker Movement. &nbsp;It\u2019s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning.&nbsp;
