Maker Faire Wayne County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\">Maker\nFaire Wayne County<\/a> is a <strong>family-friendly showcase\nof invention, creativity and resourcefulness<\/strong> and a\ncelebration of the Maker Movement. &nbsp;It\u2019s a place where people show what\nthey are making and share what they are learning.&nbsp; Makers range from tech\nenthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They\nare of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/IMG_19700430_122134-1024x765.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12779\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the\n\u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019; over <strong>1,200 people<\/strong> flocked to the third annual faire at the\nUniversity of Akron Wayne College last May. &nbsp;It was a fresh experience\nwith <strong>favorite makers from last year<\/strong> along with new makers and new things to see and do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/family-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12783\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/makercamp.com\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking\nfor something fun and educational to do with your family while staying at\nhome?&nbsp; <strong>Family Maker Camp<\/strong> (hosted by Make: Community) encourages <strong>making and hands-on learning at home.<\/strong> &nbsp;Making\nis fun and engaging for kids as well as adults.&nbsp; Camp provides\ninspiration, guidance and an opportunity to share what you do with others\nonline. There are many projects that will help you get started and continue to\ndevelop new skills and a maker mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most\nimportantly, Family Maker Camp will connect you with a <strong>community of makers<\/strong> of all ages who have a\nbroad range of interests and skills. &nbsp;It will introduce you to makers\nonline and have them talk about their projects and their process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/update-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12787\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xK1gosirnPQ\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/makercamp.com\/\">Click here<\/a>\nto sign up for the maker camp newsletter.&nbsp; And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UChtY6O8Ahw2cz05PS2GhUbg\">follow their\nweekly posts<\/a> on YouTube!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are <strong>proud to showcase\nOhio makers<\/strong> participating in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire.&nbsp; One of these\npeople is <strong>Elliott Liggett.<\/strong>&nbsp; He is aretired engineer of 42 years with\nLockheed Martin, Loral Defense Systems, Goodyear Aerospace and Goodyear\nTire.&nbsp; Elliott is also a member of the Schantz Maker Group helping to\nteach high school and middle school students how to build and use 3D printers.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"377\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/output-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/output-cropped.jpg 377w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/output-cropped.jpg?resize=294,300 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the past few maker faires, Elliott built\nand demonstrated a Peltier cooled cloud chamber for <strong>observing subatomic particles.<\/strong>&nbsp; A cloud\nchamber is a device for visualizing the passage of electrically charged,\nsubatomic particles through a supersaturated cloud of alcohol vapor.\n&nbsp;&nbsp;The behavior of charged particles such as alpha and beta radiation,\noccurring naturally in the surrounding atmosphere and muons, created within a\ncosmic ray shower, can be observed as <strong>tracks through\nthe vapor cloud.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The actual particles are too small to be seen by\neye but their tracks, created by ionization and condensation of the cloud, are <strong>readily seen as white traces or tracks.<\/strong>&nbsp; A strong magnet is placed beneath the cloud chamber as\na means to identify the polarity of very light weight, negative charge\n(electrons) and positive charged (positrons) beta particles by the <strong>curved direction of their tracks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/IMG_0085-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12795\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Faire attendees viewed subatomic particle\nmovement by looking in the \u201cviewer\u201d on the device or via the large-screen\ntelevision, too.&nbsp; The cloud chamber is a big hit with faire attendees each\nyear!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another person who participated in the Wayne\nCounty Mini Maker Faire is <strong>Susan Corl.<\/strong>&nbsp; She is an artist and writer who loves to animate.\nSince Susan was very young, she wanted to be an animator. Now, with today&#8217;s\ntechnology, it is easier than ever. Susan\u2019s passion is creating her own\ncharacters and using <strong>stop-motion animation<\/strong> to bring them to life. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"521\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/story-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/story-1.jpg 521w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/story-1.jpg?resize=230,300 230w, https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/story-1.jpg?resize=421,550 421w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ever wondered how they make those characters in\nmovies like Chicken Run, Coraline, and the Box Trolls? &nbsp;They use something\ncalled Stop Motion animation. &nbsp;Many families stopped by the <strong>Story Cultivator Studios<\/strong> booth to see\nthis technique and made their own characters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/lego-2-300x212-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12815\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/lego-1-300x213.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12819\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rounding out our participating makers is the\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tricountybeekeepers.org\/\">Tri-County Beekeepers Association Inc.<\/a>,<\/strong> an organization with education at the center of its mission.\n&nbsp;TCBA strives to educate the public as well as fellow beekeepers. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2020\/04\/IMG_19700214_130517-1024x765.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12807\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Maker Faire last year, members of TCBA\ndemonstrated the <strong>art of beekeeping<\/strong> through\nliterature and an observation hive (a colony of honey bees inside a glass\ncase).
