The Maker Faire Wayne County<\/a> is a family-friendly showcase\nof invention, creativity and resourcefulness<\/strong> and a\ncelebration of the Maker Movement.  It\u2019s a place where people show what\nthey are making and share what they are learning.  Makers range from tech\nenthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They\nare of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the\n\u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019; over 1,200 people<\/strong> flocked to the third annual faire at the\nUniversity of Akron Wayne College last May.  It was a fresh experience\nwith favorite makers from last year<\/strong> along with new makers and new things to see and do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eindhoven Maker\nFaire<\/a> brought together over 250 makers and\n15,000 attendees<\/strong> for the largest\nfestival of its kind in the Netherlands.<\/strong> The\nweekend was full of celebration, innovation, amusement, and discovery.\n While weaving around the thoughtfully curated layout of makers, discovery\nwas at every turn. From a robot potter, hangable and touchable 3D Printers, to\nforging, steampunk, and augmented reality, Maker Faire Eindhoven was pulsing\nwith art and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are proud to showcase\nOhio makers<\/strong> participating in Maker Faire Wayne County.  One of these people is Elia Meltzer.<\/strong>  She established Alaina Accessories LLC<\/a> that\nworks with indigenous artists in North America to provide a wide range of\nauthentic and unique wearable art.  Her company provides high quality\nproducts that showcase the diversity of indigenous craftsmanship.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Maker Faire Wayne County last May, Alaina\nbrought authentic Native American art, jewelry, and accessories <\/strong>made by Native American artists from around the country.\n From dream catchers to bone carvings, from necklaces to key chains, she\ndisplayed a variety of products. Faire attendees learned about the symbolism and traditions of the Native peoples<\/strong> and also the hardships that Native Americans\nface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another group that participated in Maker Faire\nWayne County are students from the Exercise Science program<\/strong> led by Dr. John Roncone, Associate Professor of\nSports Science and Wellness Education.  This was third consecutive year of\nthe Fun Fitness Obstacle Course!<\/strong>  This playful, competitive fitness course was outside\nand for children through adult years.  The course included hurdles, hoops,\nboxes, platforms\/risers, stability ball, cones, and other fun fitness equipment\nto challenge its participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the course, each participant was timed (or\nby request, not timed) to see whom will hold the best time of the day! \nAll makers need a sound mind and<\/em> body,<\/strong> so the Fun Fitness Obstacle Course was to release energy and build muscles<\/strong> at the faire.  Good job, John and students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rounding out our participating makers are the Wood Bee Woodcarvers.<\/strong>  They are one of the oldest clubs associated with The Wilderness Center.<\/strong>  The club has been in existence for more than 25 years and\nincludes carvers from Stark, Wayne, Tuscarawas, and Holmes counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Maker Faire last year, TWC members showed\nproper carving techniques and various types of carving and wood used. \nRecent club projects included Noah’s Ark<\/strong> with 30 hand carved animals and a carousel\nrocking horse mounted on rockers for kids to ride.  This hand carved horse\nwill be a family heirloom.   Want to know more?  Visit their <\/strong>website<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
