{"id":2306,"date":"2015-01-26T16:01:18","date_gmt":"2015-01-26T20:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/?p=2306"},"modified":"2015-01-26T16:01:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-26T20:01:49","slug":"accessible-toys-vinyl-projects-for-kids-and-community-presentations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/2015\/01\/26\/accessible-toys-vinyl-projects-for-kids-and-community-presentations\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessible Toys, Vinyl Projects for Kids, and Community Presentations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Hello everyone,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">The 3D Lab currently sounds like an 80\u2019s arcade machine parlor.\u00a0 All three printers are chugging away at building objects, producing all sorts of interesting sounds.\u00a0 Two printers are building parts for our popular \u201cheart gear\u201d that we found on Thingiverse.com (that Dusty redesigned), while the portable printer is creating cute robots that we use as giveaways for visitors and offsite presentations.\u00a0 The model R\/C airplane club is having their first semester meeting in the 3D Lab today; they already have three models will be flying sometime soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Debbie Muniak (our Events Coordinator at Wayne) connected us with Replay for Kids, an organization that adapts toys to be usable by kids with disabilities.\u00a0 RFK is interested in using 3D printing technology to realize these adaptations.\u00a0 Last week, they brought a stuffed animal that normally speaks and moves when its body is pressed.\u00a0 RFK wants to activate the toy through an external button.\u00a0 The button is a repurposed push-light.\u00a0 Below are photos of the original design, Kenny taking measurements, and a 3D printed a custom base.\u00a0 He created the push-light adaptation in less than 20 minutes!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5683.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2318\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5683-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"100_5683\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5684.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2322\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5684-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"100_5684\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5685.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2326\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2015\/01\/100_5685-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"100_5685\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Our collaboration with the Orrville Boys and Girls Club continues to flourish.\u00a0 Kids come to Wayne College every two weeks to learn about 3D printing, CAD design, vinyl cutting, and other projects that we can dream-up.\u00a0 This past Friday, they learned how to personalize wood plaques with names and pictures created on the vinyl cutter.\u00a0 The plaques were generously donated by P.
