Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Plans are underway for the next <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne County Mini Maker Faire<\/a> on <strong>May 19th, 2018<\/strong>.\u00a0 Be sure to mark your calendar to attend and especially to <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/call-for-makers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">participate<\/a> as a \u201cmaker\u201d.\u00a0 The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019, over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the inaugural faire at the University of Akron Wayne College this past May where they were able to step back in time and see the future at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/RA7ZHR4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8459\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/RA7ZHR4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But you don\u2019t have to wait until 2018 to enjoy the excitement and awe of Maker Faire.\u00a0 These events are happening all over the country (and all over the world), <strong>over 220 of them each year!<\/strong>\u00a0 Need inspired?\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8n8ywfqdGyE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check-out this motivational speech made by Adam Savage from Mythbusters<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Adam gives his annual Sunday &#8220;sermon&#8221; to the attendees of Bay Area Maker Faire and fields questions from the audience! This year, Adam rides in on a beautiful kinetic sculpture by the artists at La Machine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8n8ywfqdGyE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8463\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/adam2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For those wondering, what, exactly, is a maker faire, it is \u201c<strong>a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do<\/strong>. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these \u2018makers\u2019 to show hobbies, experiments, and projects,\u201d according to its website.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are <strong>proud to showcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire!\u00a0 One such person is <strong>Jonathan Rowe from the Midwest R2 Builders Club<\/strong>.\u00a0 Midwest is a branch from the main group. \u00a0They are all members of the R2 Builders Club, a non-profit organization of Star Wars fans who enjoy building robots. \u00a0They cover Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/18555857_10155471426737722_3453100972210004073_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8467\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/18555857_10155471426737722_3453100972210004073_n-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jonathan started building his R2-D2 droid (Star Wars) last year in July. His droid is not 100% complete as it\u2019s an expensive hobby. \u00a0His droid is the combination of wood frame and legs, an aluminum Lazy Susan, and a dome. \u00a0He 3D printed eye pieces and made the utility arms and skirt from resin. \u00a0<strong>Jonathan\u2019s R2 was a huge hit, easily the faire\u2019s \u201cmascot\u201d this year!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out our makers who participated is <strong>Aaron Holmes from Wayne County<\/strong>.\u00a0 With a passion for cycling and woodworking, he designed and built a wooden frame bicycle. \u00a0The bike is handmade from black walnut and is fully functional. \u00a0The bike is custom designed and fully rideable; <strong>he\u2019s ridden about 350 miles on it<\/strong> last Fall. There are many interesting features and customizations throughout the bike.\u00a0 The design and build process were exciting and the first ride was purely satisfying!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/wooden-bicycle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8471\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/08\/wooden-bicycle-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the main purpose of the project was the experience of designing and building his own bike, it has also become <strong>an excellent platform to encourage others to be creative, design, and make something<\/strong>. \u00a0Aaron grew-up in his father&#8217;s woodworking shop. From a young age, he has always enjoyed designing and making things.
