<\/a><\/p>\nSince the 3D Lab opened its doors in 2014, it went through several name changes, starting with Wayne C3, UAWC3, and recently, the \u201c3D Lab\u201d.\u00a0 We are looking to rebrand the lab<\/strong> with a fresh name and image.\u00a0 Something that defines who we are and where we are going.\u00a0 Ideas like \u201cMaker Zone\u201d, \u201cWayne Makerz\u201d, \u201cImagination Station\u201d, etc.<\/p>\n We\u2019d like your help<\/strong> in choosing a new name for the 3D Lab!\u00a0 Please submit name ideas to tjh1@uakron.edu<\/a> by Wednesday, August 30th.\u00a0 Help make the 3D Lab yours and what it means to you.\u00a0 We are open to all ideas!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We are happy to announce a new addition to the 3D Lab, a high-quality photo printer<\/strong> (Epson Stylus Pro 4880) that was donated by William Miller and former Dean Neil Sapienza.\u00a0 This machine uses an eight-ink system for beautiful color reproduction onto 17\u201d wide paper, canvas, and other mediums.\u00a0 This printer is free-to-use for patrons of the lab as are 3D printers and most other machines there.\u00a0 Come visit the lab and invite friends and family; we\u2019ll be happy to show you around and help with your projects!<\/p>\n Recently, 3D Lab staff Anthony Howell created this excellent how-to video<\/a><\/strong> for learning the ins-and-outs of the photo printer.\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely worth watching if you intend to use this printer for your projects:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 3D printers work by melting plastic through an extruder, building layers of molten plastic like a pyramid.\u00a0 The extruder moves left\/right and up\/down with motors, but that isn\u2019t the only way to control movement.\u00a0 Our new addition to the 3D Lab is a 3D printing pen, basically a handheld extruder!<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a whole new way to be creative; you can draw three dimensional objects with plastic.<\/p>\n Feel free to stop-by the 3D Lab to give then pen a try!\u00a0 You\u2019ll have so much fun with it.\u00a0 The pen is located in the front of the room, by the whiteboard.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Earlier this month, the 3D Lab made a road trip to the Holmes County Fair.<\/strong>\u00a0 Using the portable 3D printer donated by the Romich Foundation<\/a>, folks from all ages were amazed by the technology and that Wayne College hosts an open-to-the-public makerspace.<\/p>\n The amazing thing about these trips are the kids and young adults who hang around the table, sometimes for an hour or longer.\u00a0 These are budding engineers<\/strong>, asking all sorts of questions about 3D printing, how it works, and how it\u2019s used in the real world.\u00a0 Our table was easily a hit with fair goers, circling back later to get a place near the crowded table to see the printer in-action.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you\u2019re free this Thursday the 23rd, stop-in the 3D Lab during Welcome To Wayne Day from 1:00-4:00!\u00a0 We\u2019ll teach you how to laser engrave your own aluminum water bottle or coffee mug<\/strong>, courtesy of P.Graham Dunn.\u00a0 Here are directions to our lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Stay tuned next week as we start another fun semester in the 3D Lab!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n See how E.
