Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Plans are underway for the next <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\">Wayne County Mini Maker Faire<\/a> on <strong>May 19th, 2018<\/strong>.\u00a0 Be sure to mark your calendar to attend and especially to <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/call-for-makers\/\">participate<\/a> as a \u201cmaker\u201d.\u00a0 The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019, over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the inaugural faire at the University of Akron Wayne College this past May where they were able to step back in time and see the future at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8847\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But you don\u2019t have to wait until 2018 to enjoy the excitement and awe of Maker Faire.\u00a0 These events are happening all over the country (and all over the world), over 220 of them each year.\u00a0 Need inspired?\u00a0 Check-out <a href=\"https:\/\/makezine.com\/2017\/09\/23\/live-updates-maker-faire-new-york\/\">pictures<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bridgette.vanderlaan\/videos\/10155709158007292\/\">videos<\/a> from World Maker Faire which rocked New York City two weekends ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bridgette.vanderlaan\/videos\/10155709158007292\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8851\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic2-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you couldn\u2019t make it to New York, you can experience the event with a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/UYO1Coywb1U\">recording of this live stream<\/a>.\u00a0 Going to a World Maker Faire is an experience of a lifetime!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For those wondering, what, exactly, is a maker faire, it is \u201c<strong>a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do<\/strong>. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these \u2018makers\u2019 to show hobbies, experiments, and projects,\u201d according to its website.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are <strong>proud to showcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire.\u00a0 One such person is <strong>Ben Ault<\/strong>.\u00a0 He enjoys learning about the hobby of high powered rocketry. From design to flight and everything in between. \u00a0Ben is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University in mechanical and aerospace engineering. \u00a0At Case, he was involved in the Rocket Team as vice president and lab manager where he developed his interest in high powered rocketry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8855\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic3-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8859\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic4-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben makes and launches mid powered and high powered rockets. He brought a few examples of rockets that he constructed and showed videos and pictures of launches.\u00a0 Currently, he is building a rocket <strong>capable of heights of 10,000-feet<\/strong> or more!\u00a0 Ben recently used the CNC mill at the Wayne College 3D Lab to carve a window mold \u00a0for the nosecone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out our makers who participated is <strong>Steve Kitchen<\/strong>.\u00a0 He demonstrated the art of flintknapping; faire attendees saw how Native Americans made stone arrowheads of flint from Ohio quarries. \u00a0Attendees also saw how the modern knapper uses these colorful pieces to create moving works of art called mobiles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8863\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8867\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2017\/10\/pic6-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Steve is a flintknapper and demonstrated the process of <strong>making stone arrowheads as the Native Americans did<\/strong>. He brought many examples of reproductions of arrowhead types that would be found in Ohio. He uses arrowheads to make moving artistic mobiles of various types. These were displayed as well.
