Wayne County Mini Maker Faire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Plans are underway for the next <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/\">Wayne County Mini Maker Faire<\/a> on <strong>Saturday, May 19th<\/strong>.\u00a0 Be sure to mark your calendar to attend and especially to <a href=\"http:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/call-for-makers\/\">participate<\/a> as a \u201cmaker\u201d.\u00a0 The Daily Record said it best: \u201cDubbed the \u2018Greatest Show and Tell on Earth\u2019, over <strong>1,300 people<\/strong> flocked to the inaugural faire at the University of Akron Wayne College last year.<\/p>\n<p>The Wayne County Mini Maker Faire is a <strong>family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness<\/strong>, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. \u00a0It\u2019s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.\u00a0 Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to <strong>entertain, inform, connect and grow this community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9779\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/069-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 2017 faire hosted 70 makers from all corners of the community, many of whom are coming back for the faire this May!\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/waynecounty.makerfaire.com\/makers-exhibits\/\">Click here<\/a> to see all of the interesting and friendly folks who participated last year<\/strong>.\u00a0 There truly is something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maker Faire Bay Area<\/strong> is one of the largest Maker Faires in the world!\u00a0 Last year, 125,000 people from 50 states and 48 countries flocked to San Mateo where over 1,200 \u201cmakers\u201d revealed their awe inspiring inventions.\u00a0 It was <strong>three days<\/strong> of unforgettable experiences.\u00a0 But don\u2019t take my word for it, check-out these <a href=\"https:\/\/makezine.com\/2017\/05\/19\/maker-faire-bay-area-2017\">photos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=06_1kygG_Z8\">videos<\/a> from the event.\u00a0 If you happen to be in California this summer, be sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/makerfaire.com\/bay-area\/\">buy tickets<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9783\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/bay-area-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are <strong>proud to showcase Ohio makers<\/strong> who participated in the Wayne County Mini Maker Faire last year.\u00a0 One such person is <strong>Robin Wisner<\/strong> from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SCHSMishler\/\">Smithville Historical Society<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 She works at the Mischler Weaving Mill.\u00a0 In the mill, they have hand looms and power looms from the early 1900\u2019s, making rag rugs, dishcloths, and dish towels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9787\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/smithville-historical-society-hand-weaving-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the 2017 faire, the group brought a small floor loom for demonstration.\u00a0 Participants saw <strong>hand weaving in action<\/strong>, asked question, and could see &amp; touch the various products of the looms.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the weaving mill, the Historical Society runs a <strong>pioneer village<\/strong> with working tinsmiths, potters, and blacksmiths.\u00a0 Their products were available for participants to see and enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out our makers who participated is <strong>Dick Radosevic<\/strong> from Canton, Ohio.\u00a0 At his exhibit, Dick brought various sizes and uses of solar panels for residential, commercial, and electric vehicle applications, perfect for <strong>renewable energy and sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9791\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/thumb__MG_0013_1024-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dick brought a trailer with 8 PV panels, and Chevy Volt electric vehicle to demonstrates the size of a <strong>Solar PV system<\/strong> to provide a 10,000 mile capability, a small fuel cell for a water cycle demo, a small, sun driven Sterling engine (3D printed), and charts describing how various renewable energy systems work and how to size them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to know more about the Smithville Historical Society or Dick\u2019s renewable energy ideas, please reply to this email!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zDuwiXubeoI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9795\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.uakron.edu\/waynec3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1058\/2018\/03\/video-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zDuwiXubeoI\">Check out the video above<\/a><\/strong>;
