Curious about Open Textbooks?


Open textbooks, also referred to as open educational resources (OERs), are inexpensive or free textbooks that are published in an effort to reduce costs for students and to improve access to higher education. Many organizations across the U.S. are supporting and backing OERs, one of which is Rice University.  The Rice initiative named OpenStax is made possible through the support of philanthropic foundations.  

The Wayne College Library Information Desk has 4 OpenStax textbooks on reserve that can be checked out for 7 days. This is a great opportunity for faculty who would like to review and evaluate a print edition of an open textbook.  Others who are interested, or, simply curious to see what an open textbook looks like, are welcome to stop by the library and check one out as well. Below are the books the library has on reserve.
