In 2014, the Akronauts Rocket Design Team was born from a simple question—why wait for someone else to launch our payload when we could build the rocket ourselves? What started as a late-night idea quickly became a reality, drawing over 100 passionate students in its first year.
With no funding, no workspace, and no experience, we faced countless obstacles. But through perseverance, teamwork, and the guidance of mentors, we secured resources, built our first rocket, and set our sights on competition.
In 2015, Erebus made history at IREC, despite last-minute failures, a 26-hour drive, and even duct-taping the nose cone on the launch pad. Against the odds, our first rocket took flight, launching our legacy with it.
Since then, we’ve grown into one of the nation’s most ambitious collegiate rocket teams, pioneering advanced propulsion systems, breaking altitude records, and proving that with determination and innovation, the sky is just the beginning.
