HORNET Engine
Hornet was the Akronaut’s first liquid engine. The engine was regeneratively cooled and was additively manufactured using laser powder bed fusion out of NASA’s GR-Cop42 copper alloy. The project scope included: designing the engine, designing and building a test stand, developing a system of electrical controls, and then verifying the entire system. Hornet was hotfired 3 times in the same day in April of 2023.
