The Empowerment Lab at the University of Akron is led by Dr. Dawn Johnson and our lab manager, Rachel Mirsen, M.A. Broadly, Empowerment Lab research focuses on better understanding the causes and consequences of intimate partner violence, the methods of coping and survival used by domestic violence shelter residents, and preventive interventions with EMPOWERMENT at their core. These projects are made possible by collaborations with the Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center and Battered Women’s Shelter in Akron, as well as with the broader community at the University of Akron.
