Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering

Our lab recently welcomed undergraduate students as part of the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program. The program which lasted for 9 weeks allowed undergraduate students to undertake projects related to polymer engineering which allowed them to get vital insights into the subject while gaining pertinent hands-on experience related to graduate-level research. The program culminated with an oral and poster presentation at the annual Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Research Symposium.

STEM Research Experience for High School Students

Our lab is currently participating in a mentoring STEM program with St. Vincent-St. Mary high school in Akron, OH. Lab members are given the opportunity to mentor for a semester a high school student and train them in their field of research and learn the scientific process in a hands-on experience.

Akron Global Polymer Academy K-12 Outreach

Lab members are encouraged to be actively involved with The Akron Global Polymer Academy (AGPA). AGPA is a K-12 outreach division of the school of polymer science and engineering. Lab members can volunteer and help to organize various STEM opportunities for teachers and students of all ages to experience and learn more about the world of polymers through in-school visits featuring hands-on demonstrations. These include regional science Olympiads, science fairs, and ongoing STEM research experiences for students.
