Rouzbeh Amini

Rouzbeh Amini completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in the field of ocular biomechanics and biotransport. He then continued his research work on the mechanics of soft tissue as a postdoctoral trainee at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Bioengineering.  Rouzbeh Amini has served as an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Akron since August 2013.

Fun fact: Presented my ARVO 2007 poster and got married in the same day!

Vineet Thomas

Hometown: Hyderabad, India
Hobbies:  Teaching, composing worship songs, and playing cricket

Vineet holds a bachelor’s from Osmania University (Hyderabad, India) and a master’s in civil engineering from The University of Akron.  Having become thereafter an assistant professor at his alma mater in India Vineet returned Akron for a PhD in Biomedical Engineering.  Current work involves developing a multi-scale framework to analyze the tricuspid valve (TV) biomechanics as well as identify changes in the tissue microstructure under ex-vivo loading conditions.

Graduate Students

Sam Salinas

Hometown: Sheffield Village, OH/Orange, CA
Hobbies: Photography, backpacking, and traveling

After receiving his Bachelor’s in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Sam worked in industry (Brainlab Inc.) for five years as a support specialist for the Oncology division.  He is currently a second year PhD student at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and has done some research in the role of elastin in tricuspid valves.

Fun fact: Claimed by parents at the lost and found in a grocery store at the age of 3.

 

 

 

Blaise Simplice Talla Nwotchouang

Hometown: Buea, Cameroon.
Hobbies: Singing, traveling, photography, and hiking

Blaise completed his Masters degree in Biomedical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen Germany. Joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Akron in 2016 and is currently carrying out In-vivo measurement of brain deformation in patients with Chiari malformation.

Fun fact: Switched to Mac, has no plans of going back.  Update: Switched back to Windows.
