Hello everyone,

Maker Faire Wayne County is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning.  Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds.  The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.  For a complete list of awesome makers who attended Maker Faire Wayne County click here!

Local Makers

We are proud to showcase Ohio makers who participated in Maker Faire Wayne County 2022 this past May.  One of these is Tracy Hamilton of Hamilton WoodcraftingAt Maker Faire Wayne County, Tracy showed multiple types of wooden cutting boards, charcuterie, cheese boards, bottle openers, and serving trays.  He also brings some of these items to the 3D Lab to be personalized with the laser engraver, a handy tool for burning images and text onto his wood products.

Tracy Hamilton grew up with a love for working with his hands and a passion for creating things from hardwoods. At the request of his grandmother, Tracy began to craft beautiful items from genuine hardwoods.

Another group who participated in Maker Faire Wayne County are the FIRST Robotics Team 2399: The Fighting Unicorns.  They are based out of Shaker Heights, Ohio.  Each year, the team works to create a robot to compete in the competition presented by FIRST.  They created their robot this year that is capable of shooting cargo (oversized tennis balls) as well as climbing to monkey bar-like rungs.  Their cargo shooting robot was quite a hit!  The team was happy and eager to show their robot and how they made it to everyone passing by!

This year’s game is Rapid React.  Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.

The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

Rounding out our makers who participated in Maker Faire Wayne County are members of Orrville Community Theater, a non-profit organization helping to keep Live Theater Alive.  They welcome anyone who has a love for theater – on stage, behind the scenes, or sponsoring a show!  They regularly present shows in the Orrville area.  Murder Mysteries, Christmas Shows, Children’s Workshops, Teen Workshops, and more!

At Maker Faire last May, performers and members of Orrville Community Theatre gave entertaining skits on a small stage.  Children also enjoying coloring paper masks that they took with them!  We are proud to have such a talented and friendly group participate in maker faire.

If you would like to know more about Tracy’s wood crafted items, robots from the Fighting Unicorns, or what Orrville Community Theater is all about, please reply to this email.

Until next week,
