Hello everyone,

Less than three weeks ago, Maker Faire 2023 landed on Wayne College campus with a rousing success!  Over 1,000 people attended the fifth year of the event, hosting almost 60 makers showing their creative works and fascinating inventions.  Please click here for makers who participated over the years.  If you attended last May’s event and want to reach-out to a particular maker, let me know and I’ll put you in-touch!  Special thanks to our many volunteers (both community and in-house) who helped make event day a success.

Save the date!

Save the date to attend Maker Faire Wayne County 2024 held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio!  This will be a joint event between Maker Faire Wayne County and the AC Gilbert Heritage Society, famously known for its Erector Sets and many other educational toys and games.

Next year’s event will showcase exhibits by area makerspaces, 3D printing, CNC routing, laser engraving, area school STEAM exhibits, and more.  As always, Maker Faire is open to everyone (personal hobbies, inventions, arts and crafts, animals, etc.).  Anything goes at maker faire!  For more information, please click here.

Near the end of Spring semester, students from the education program at Wayne College visited the 3D Lab to learn how digital fabrication can enhance what they learn and accomplish in the program.  It was a friendly group, happy to learn new things.  They started out with 3D printing, making multi-side dice for a class project.  Students also learned dye sublimation and laser engraving onto varying materials, including a paw print from a loved pet onto acrylic!  It was an enjoyable evening and everyone made something to take home.

Also last April, a couple of Wayne College students embarked on a rather large 3D printing project in the lab, both first-timers to 3D printing!  They wanted to print a life-size sword replica from The Legend of Zelda games, inspired by the recent Tears of the Kingdom release.  It was no small feat, requiring a couple of weeks of printing parts that would assemble together.  When it was finished, we were impressed!  The final sword will be sealed, sanded, and painted.  We can’t wait to see the result!

Stay tuned next month as we reveal more interesting things happening (and people visiting) the 3D Lab!!

Until then,

Tom
