(1) List your judicial experience (courts and years):
I am seeking judicial office for the first time.

(2) What about your non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a
judge?
A Common Pleas Court judge presides over many different types of cases ranging from death penalty cases to contract disputes to personal injury claims. Most attorneys practice either civil or criminal law, but not both, and spend their careers focusing on one area of the law. Their limited experience does not prepare them for the numerous and wide- ranging cases a judge must decide. However, my unique legal career of over 22 years provides me the best experience to be a judge because I have handled hundreds of civil and criminal cases in courthouses all
over Ohio. I have significant experience as a civil litigator in employment law, discrimination suits, workers’ compensation claims, whistle blower actions, and business disputes. I also have extensive criminal jury trial experience as a former Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor in the Special Victims Unit, prosecuting violent felons and predators in death penalty, rape, burglary, robbery, theft, domestic violence, drugs, and weapons cases. I have worked at many different levels of the justice system. I have represented clients in juvenile, traffic, small claims, municipal, domestic relations, and common pleas courts, and numerous Courts of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Ohio, Bankruptcy Court, and United States Federal Courts. I have worked in both the public and private sectors. I have served Ohioans at all levels of government as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Whitehall, an Assistant County Prosecutor under Ron O’Brien, and an Assistant Ohio Attorney General. And I currently serve as the Chairman of the Ohio Public Defender Commission. While working in the private sector, I previously ran my own business as a sole practitioner focusing on criminal defense law and traffic offenses, fighting for justice and protecting individual rights. I currently work in a law firm representing and helping businesses as they navigate
the many laws, codes, and regulations governing their operations and affecting their decisions. Most importantly, my experience has taught me that each individual, regardless of who they are or where they’re from, deserves respect and dignity, and that every person is entitled to equal access to the justice system and the opportunity to be heard. My experience has taught me that a judge must be fair and impartial, cannot have a political agenda, and must constantly strive to provide justice for all. It is these life lessons, learned through experience, which qualify me to be a Judge.

(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?
I want to be a Common Pleas Court judge because it is the best way I
can serve the public utilizing my unique legal experience. A Common
Pleas Court judge must make some of the most difficult decisions in the
justice system. A judge decides whether an individual is guilty of a
crime, how long someone should serve in prison, whether someone has
been discriminated against, whether someone was wrongfully arrested,
whether a doctor committed malpractice, whether a victim can recover
damages, or whether a business wrongfully terminated an employee.
And a judge presides over death penalty cases. To correctly make these
decisions, an attorney who aspires to be a judge must have prior
experience with these issues and these types of cases. In January 2019,
three judges will be retiring from the bench due to age restrictions
imposed by the Ohio Constitution. Combined, over 70 years of judicial
wisdom and experience will be lost. To reduce the loss, we need to elect
judicial candidates who have extensive experience in the Common
Pleas Court.
I am running for Common Pleas Court judge because I believe that
experience matters. A record of proven experience provides the
wisdom a judge needs to make difficult decisions and empowers a judge
to maintain a strong and independent judiciary that is free from
partisan influence. I believe trust matters. Judges are the guardians of
our legal system. The public must be able to trust that a judge will seek
the truth without a political agenda and act with the highest standards
of professionalism at all times in both their public and private lives. I
believe fairness matters. A judge must be fair and impartial protecting
the rights of all who appear in court and ensuring that the courtroom is
open, transparent, and accessible. I believe community matters. Our
diverse community is our strength and a judge must endeavor to
faithfully protect our community as well as each individual’s rights. I
believe justice matters. A judge must treat everyone with dignity and
respect and dedicate themselves to seeking equal justice for all. If
elected, I promise to dedicate my 22 years of proven legal experience to
serving our community, treating everyone with dignity and respect,
equally protecting individual rights, and providing justice for all. I
humbly ask for your vote on November 6th. Thank you.
