(2) What about your non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a
judge?
I began my career in the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office as a
municipal court prosecutor, a position I held for 3 years. I then moved
into the position of sexual crimes prosecutor in Portage County for 1
year, focusing on prosecuting sexual crimes against children cases. For
the past 14 years, I have prosecuted felony cases in Lake County,
including Capital Murder, Murder, Rape, Burglary, and Robbery cases.
Entering my 19th year of practicing law, I have handled more than a
thousand criminal cases. I have tried approximately 75 jury trials,
including over 50 felony cases and 1 civil case to verdict. I have argued
numerous appeals to the 11th District Court of Appeals and 1 case to
the Ohio Supreme Court. Professionally, I was appointed by the Ohio
Supreme Court to the Ohio Board of Professional Conduct. I am chair
of the Lake County Bar Association’s Meet Your Judge Committee and,
until announcing my candidacy, was co-chair of the Judicial Selection
and Endorsement Committee. I am also a member of the Notary
Commission.

(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?
The job of a prosecutor is to do justice. That has been the sole focus of
my legal career. Every case that I have handled I had to come to with an
open mind. I had to look at each case based solely on the facts and the
law. A prosecutor must look at all sides of the case to ensure that
justice is done. These are the same skills that are required of a good
Judge. Lake County has a well-earned reputation as having an excellent
judiciary. The retirement of Judge Richard L. Collins, Jr., leaves a large
void to fill.
Having practiced hundreds of times in the Lake County Court of
Common Pleas General Division has given me an appreciation for what
is required to ×ll that void and to maintain the standard of excellence
that the Lake County judiciary is known for. Lake County deserves a
Judge that will work hard, come to each case with an open mind, decide
each case solely based on the facts and the law, and who will treat
everyone who appears before the Court with dignity and respect. My
background, both personally and professionally, have prepared me for
this position. I am honored that my peers have given me the rating of
I look forward to continuing my service to the citizens of Lake County as Judge.
