questions, interpreted policy and procedure, ruled on motions and
objections, and determined admissibility of evidence; Conducted legal
research in preparation for hearings (e.g., reviewed all materials from
the Lower Authority proceedings & Director’s files & all additional
documents & exhibits, ensured that parties & issues are correctly
identified & notified), conferred with parties regarding scheduling &

(3) Why are you running for this particular court seat?
I am running for re-election to my current seat to continue to oversee court proceedings to ensure equal access to justice. As a judge, I have a responsibility to afford all individuals an opportunity to be heard regardless of race, religion, language, sex or sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. I run a court that gives equal protection under the law to all litigants. I feel that I have an obligation to also provide procedural education to the community by participating in panels and forums with various organizations. I volunteer to serve the community in other capacities which keeps me in touch with the needs of the community that appears before me. The bench should reflect the population that appears before the Court. As a minority female and former business owner, I bring a breadth of life experiences to the court. I am a judge who decides cases based only on the dictates of the law, without allowing my personal or political preferences to influence the decision. The law has shown itself to be a living, breathing thing that has the power to transform lives through its application. The law, and its application by a judge, affords an ordinary person the opportunity to participate in the process in our court where families come in crisis. I am the right person for this seat because I have empathy for those who appear before me, knowing that my decision impacts their future. I have implemented a program to assist families in recovering child support through collaboration with community service organizations to link Compass participants to job training, education, addiction and mental health services, and ultimately jobs. Compass has saved over $400,000 tax payer dollars by re-directing litigants from jail to employment. My rulings are consistent with the best practices of my profession and have their basis in the best interest of children and their families.
