Design, Fabrication and Testing of a Long Service Life Implantable Glucose Sensor for Diabetes Management

Monday, March 14, 2016

Whitby Hall, Room 211, 12-1 pm

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the world, and 29.1 million patients reside in US. The diagnosis and management of diabetes requires accurate and convenient monitoring of blood glucose levels by glucose sensors, which account for about 85% of the entire biosensor market. The objective of this work is to design, fabricate and test a prototype implantable glucose sensor with longer service life, improved stability and higher sensitivity by using an advanced polymeric material, which is recently developed in my lab. I believe this new material can solve many long-standing problems of implantable glucose sensors.

Dr. Cheng is an Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The University of Akron.
