Hello everyone,
Maker Faire Wayne County is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.
Maker Faire is happening soon! Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 21st from 11:00-2:00 for this unforgettable event. The event is free and open to the public. Your kids will love it, too!
The Daily Record said it best: “Dubbed the ‘Greatest Show and Tell on Earth’; over 1,200 people flocked to the 2019 faire at the University of Akron Wayne College. It was a fresh experience with favorite makers from previous years along with new makers and new things to see and do.
For those wondering, what, exactly, is a maker faire, it is ‘a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these ‘makers’ to show hobbies, experiments, projects,’ according to its website.”

Local Makers
We are proud to showcase Ohio makers who are participating in Maker Faire Wayne County 2022! Some of these are Johnny and Kendra Workman of Workmans Fiery Forge. Everything they make is hand forged including home decor, coat racks, bottle openers, knives, and door knockers. He makes things out of railroad spikes, horseshoes, repurposed metal. At Maker Faire, Johnny will have a forging demonstration with a mobile forge!
Another person who will participate in Maker Faire Wayne County is Erin from Leif & Thorn. She makes creator-owned comics and related merchandise. The two main titles are But I’m A Cat Person and Leif & Thorn, both fantasy adventure/comedies for teens and up. Erin has omnibus boxsets for BICP and paperback Volumes 1-4 for Leif & Thorn, plus pins of the mascot characters and prints of related art pieces. She also has fanart prints and coloring pages available (free to kids)!
Rounding out our makers who will participate in next Saturday’s fare is Elle of FIRST Robotics Team 2399 The Fighting Unicorns. They are a FIRST Robotics Competition team based out of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Each year, her team works to create a robot to compete in the competition presented by FIRST. This year’s game is Rapid React. They created their robot this year that is capable of shooting cargo (oversized tennis balls) as well as climbing to monkey bar like rungs!
