Knovel e-book content – We have reduced our content in the Knovel database. We no longer have electronic access to the ASM International Materials Collection. Please contact your subject librarian for more information or help with this content.

Akron Beacon Journal Archive

The library has recently lost access to our online hosting for the full page scans of the ABJ from 2008 – 2018. However, the library maintains this content in house and can provide it to you on request. The option now appears in our publication finder entry for the ABJ. Please contact Frank Bove or Gregg Harris for more details.

Reminder – Steaming Video Request Form

Faculty who would like access to a streaming video for use in a course can now complete this form to send us their request. Streaming video licenses are expensive and the library has a limited ability to accommodate these requests. However, we do provide access to streaming video when there is a need for streaming (e.g., online course) and an academic benefit to our students. You can find existing streaming video resources in our collection in the Films on Demand, Swank Motion Pictures, and Kanopy databases. Note: Kanopy cost is based on usage / number of plays so please use with appropriate discretion.

Safari Books Online

Over the fall 2018 semester Safari Technical Books ebook collection transitioned from the ProQuest platform to the O’Reilly Safari Learning Platform with concurrent access to both platforms through December 21, 2018.  The O’Reilly Safari Learning offers several advantages over the ProQuest platform. There is now unlimited concurrent use of the ebook collection content, so that no one should encounter an error accessing the content because of a maximum user limit. The collection also includes much ancillary content in the form of streaming audio and video to compliment the ebook texts. Accessing the collection will require the user to submit a valid University of Akron email address (username@uakron.edu or username@zips.uakron.edu), rather than UANet ID and password. If you have further questions or concerns about the new Safari platform, please do not hesitate to contact University Libraries Electronic Services Department through the contact information below.

Mergent Resource Updates

A number of changes are occurring with our Mergent resources. We have added the Mergent Intellect database. This resource is replacing the stand alone access points to Hoovers Online, Key Business Ratios, and First Research. We have also canceled our print copy of the D&B Industry Norms as this content is also available in Mergent Intellect. Additionally, we have canceled our subscription to Mergent Bondviewer due to low use. This resource will no longer be available effective 5/31/19.

Bloomberg BNA

A recent and significant change has occurred with Bloomberg BNA. The UA Law Library  traditionally negotiates university-wide access to Bloomberg BNA. Unfortunately, Bloomberg is no longer willing to grant access to the entire university and the new BNA profiles contract limits access to the law school only and will require username and password. For more information, please contact the UA Law Library.

New Streaming Video Request Form

Faculty who would like access to a streaming video for use in a course can now complete this form to send us their request. Streaming video licenses are expensive and the library has a limited ability to accommodate these requests. However, we do provide access to streaming video when there is a need for streaming (e.g., online course) and an academic benefit to our students. You can find existing streaming video resources in our collection in the Films on Demand, Swank Motion Pictures, and Kanopy databases.

Library E-resource Spotlight – Full Text Finder

Are you looking for a specific journal, magazine, or newspaper? Full Text Finder will help you locate publications throughout University Libraries’ electronic collections, regardless of publisher or platform. You can search for a title by entering keywords or you can browse online publications by subject area. You can limit results by discipline, format, publisher, and you can even filter down to peer-reviewed publications only.  Give it a try! Select “E-JOURNALS” on the libraries’ website menu.

Outage affecting all OhioLINK services Tuesday 3/21 7:30pm

OH-TECH needs to complete some urgent maintenance on the systems that govern access to our servers. This maintenance will take place on Tuesday, March 21 from 7:30-10pm. They are expecting any service outage during that window to be less than 30 minutes. During the outage, however, all OhioLINK services will be unavailable.

Affected Services:
· ohiolink.edu
· EJC
· EBC
· ETD Center
· Central Catalog*
· DRC
· Music Center
· Rave URL resolver

We are not anticipating any issues after the maintenance, as the services themselves are not being taken down. OH-TECH is just interrupting the access routes. Once access is restored, Judy and I will double check everything, but services should be up and functioning as they were before the maintenance.

* While the Central Catalog is unavailable, messages between local catalogs and Central will be queued and processed when Central is available again. This will include all PCIRC renewals and pickup anywhere transactions. Once the maintenance is completed, OhioLINK will check the record queues from the local catalogs to Central and make sure that they are connected and that any queued messages are being processed.

We recognize that OhioLINK users are working all the time, and regret any inconvenience that this maintenance may cause.

Please email support@ohiolink.edu with questions or issues.

Thanks,
Meghan

Workflow mapping can be a powerful approach to understanding the systems and processes libraries already have in place and a great first step in figuring out how to improve them. This webinar will provide an introduction to workflow mapping. Topics covered will include basic workflow mapping syntax, software, and techniques for creation. Just as importantly, participants will also hear tips on how to structure a successful workflow mapping project – from getting buy in from stakeholders to making the most of our your completed maps.

  • Learn the basic syntax and structure for workflow maps
  • Gain exposure to tools and techniques for creating maps
  • Learn about best practices for structuring a workflow mapping project
