Team-Based Design in Biomedical Engineering Education

National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) invite applications from institutions that propose to establish new or to enhance existing team-based design courses or programs in undergraduate Biomedical Engineering departments or other degree-granting programs with Biomedical Engineering tracks/minors. This FOA mainly targets undergraduate students but may also include first-year graduate students. Courses and programs that address innovative and/or ground-breaking development, multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary education, the regulatory pathway and other issues related to the commercialization of medical devices, and clinical immersion are especially encouraged. This FOA will use the NIH Research Education (R25) grant mechanism.

Light-weighted Primary Mirror and Mount Assembly for the Gondola for High-Altitude Planetary Science Optical Telescope Assembly

This Request for Proposal (RFP) notice is issued by NASA/MSFC for developing anoptical telescope assembly (OTA) for use on the Gondola for High Altitude Planetary Science (GHAPS), a re-suable balloon-borne stratospheric astronomical observatory. The telescope consists of several components, including the primary and secondary mirrors, mirror support systems, optical metering structure, light baffles, thermal sensing and control components, and focusing mechanism.This procurement is a full and open competition.

Remote Sensing of Water Quality

Deadline: March 8, 2017

NASA solicits projects that improve remote sensing capability of water quality. While proposed “field campaigns” are acceptable, proposers are encouraged to keep their efforts small and targeted to the specific work proposed. NASA may seek to leverage all the funded investigations and investigators to help generate a plan for a larger field campaign that would collect a much larger set of environmental descriptors.

Rapid Response and Novel Research in Earth Science

Deadline: March 31, 2017

This program element solicits proposals that advance the goals and objectives of NASA’s Earth Science Division by conducting unique research to investigate 1) unforeseen or unpredictable Earth system events and opportunities that require rapid response, and 2) novel new ideas of potential high merit and relevance for ESD science that have not otherwise been solicited by NASA in the past three years.

This program element solicits proposals for topical workshops, symposia, conferences, and other scientific/technical meetings (herein referred to as “events”) that advance the goals and objectives of only the following SMD Divisions: Earth Science, Heliophysics, and Planetary Science.

Women in Science Fellowship Grants

L’Oréal USA For Women In Science
The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program awards five women postdoctoral scientists annually with grants of $60,000 each for their contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields and commitment to serving as role models for younger generations. The program is the U.S. component of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowships. Celebrating its thirteenth year in the U.S., the For Women in Science program has awarded 65 postdoctoral women scientists over $3 million in grants.

L’Oréal USA partners with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to manage the program’s application and peer-review process. Each year, the program attracts talented applicants from diverse STEM fields, representing some of the nation’s leading academic institutions and laboratories.

“I devoted my 2016 Faculty Research fellowship to a project titled “Swing Season: Writing the Heart of Ohio in a Presidential Election Year.” The project gave me a platform from which to secure an additional fellowship and weeklong residency in Cleveland to cover the Republican National Convention for Belt Magazine, publishing four essays as part of the online magazine’s coverage of the event. In addition, I published three election-themed essays in the online edition of The Atlantic magazine, allowing the opportunity to bring this project to a major national audience. Also, as a result of the exposure of these essays, I was featured in a longform analysis of national RNC news coverage by the Columbia Journalism Review.”
