Hello everyone, Maker Faire Wayne County happened on a hot and beautifully sunny day on Saturday, May 21st.  The University of Akron Wayne College’s Student Life Building and grounds were full of inventive makers and curious faire goers, making for a packed and exciting event.  Faire goers were greeted to carnival music from Rob Gregory’s calliope, while Zydeco Bistro and Ye Old School Bus offered meals and ice cream to hungry patrons.   This year faire hosted almost 50 “makers” of all ages, those who are creative, inventive, and passionate about their hobby and excited to share what they do.  Maker Faire is all aboutRead More →

Hello everyone, With Spring teasing us with alternating warm and snowy days and the pandemic slowly on the decline, community groups are starting to mingle again.  The highlight is the rebirth of the Schantz Makerspace, having their first general meeting last evening to the tune of 45+ people!  A number of programs have already hit the ground running, such as the Romich Foundation’s 3D Printer Lending Library and upcoming classes & build workshops offered by Schantz Makerspace.  It is good that the maker community is coming together again to help the community and each other with a variety of STEM projects.   The 3D LabRead More →

Hello everyone, Warm weather is temptingly here to stay with the  glorious 60-degree temps today!  With cold weather subsiding, people are venturing outdoors for hobbies, exercise, and yardwork.  Students and community members use the 3D Lab makerspace regardless of the weather for making things; the electronic machines seem to work best inside without rain or snow falling on them. Hello everyone, We’ve certainly received our share of snow recently!  The winter break gave 3D Lab staff time to clean up the lab, fix and improve equipment, even have time to explore new things to make!  Lab staff Carter make good use of the time, learning how to operate the Roland MDX-40A, a CNC router capable of carving into cylindrical stock as well as flat material.  The lab is restocked, the machines are humming along, what better time to get your projects made in the 3D Lab!
