Optical imaging, spectroscopy and sensing technologies have tremendous potential in healthcare and biomedical research. More importantly, optical diagnostics is noninvasive or minimally invasive and optical devices can be readily miniaturized at low cost with available state-of-the-art photonics components and fabrication technologies. The Laboratory of Biophotonics Imaging, Spectroscopy and Sensing (BISS), directed by Dr. Bing Yu, is determined to develop innovative optical diagnostic devices that are more compact, accurate, reliable, and cost-effective, with applications for cancer detection and therapeutic monitoring, especially in low- and middle-incoming countries (LMIC).
