What began in 2017 as a fairly simple geophysical survey project to map the unmarked graves in Akron’s Schneider Park transformed into a multi-disciplinary, multifaceted, community project.
One result of that is the 2025 book What Remains: Infirmary Burials, Memory, and Community in the Rubber City edited by Carolyn Behrman and Timothy Matney. The books brings individuals together to discuss law, archaeology, history, anthropology, and memory in the context of the Summit County Infirmary and cemetery.
