Women on the Rise display March 9-27th

Graduate Student Government, represented by President Amanda Stefin has received permission to sponsor and install a display for Women’s History Month in both Bierce Library and the Science & Technology Library. The display, titled “Women on the Rise” will feature several posters/stories of current UA female identifying students. Amanda is collecting the stories and University Communications and Marketing will be formatting them for print. The display will run March 9-27 (set up may occur March 9-11).

The display at Bierce Library will be installed on a large mobile whiteboard and located in the first floor lobby.

The display at Science & Technology will be installed on the existing large mobile whiteboard near the front entrance and will be located across from the entrance and adjacent to the Circulation desk.

Marilia Antúnez Recognized for Achieving National Credential

University Libraries is pleased to announce that Marilia Antúnez, Life & Allied Health Sciences Librarian, has been nationally recognized by the Medical Library Association (MLA) for attaining membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). The Academy is the credentialing and career development program for health information professionals. Academy membership is based on three areas of achievement: academic preparation, professional experience, and professional accomplishment. Ms. Antúnez’s membership was approved at the Distinguished Member level.

University Libraries is proud to have Marilia Antúnez supporting the needs of the health information profession. “We are excited to celebrate this recognition of Ms. Antúnez’s achievements. This is really wonderful news!” Dean Aimée deChambeau.

Updates and New Stuff for Fall

Based on feedback gathered during space study surveys in the Spring, we’ve updated and upgraded several services and programs for students this fall.

Highlights include:

  • MakerStudio Move Relocated to the ground floor of Bierce, the expanded MakerStudio is a great place to explore and work collaboratively
  • Media Collection Featured on First Floor Browse the DVDs, CDs and newspapers in their new location in the first floor Learning Commons in Bierce
  • Refreshed Study Rooms Each study room in Bierce got a new coat of paint and freshly cleaned carpets
  • New Equipment for Lending More calculators, cameras, tripods, and fresh laptops for checkout
  • New Furniture One person tables and new chairs for quiet individual study on the 3rd floor of Bierce and bean bags on the ground floor. Plus four mobile whiteboards on the 2nd and 3rd floor.
  • New Lockers at the Science and Technology Library. Program your own code and use one of the nine lockers throughout the day.
  • New Learning Management System Brightspace, formerly Springboard, is our upgraded web-based course management system.
  • New Series of Events Gather @ the Library is a series of events curated by the University Libraries. Weekly events range from workshops and author talks to discussions.
