Hello everyone, The first week of the Fall semester has finished with a bang!  It is exciting to see the parking lots fill-up, student taking classes, milling the walls, and a healthy feel to the Wayne College campus.  Even outside the 3D Lab, we are “making” new things all over campus.  Stop-in to check-out our nursing and early education program areas, the Bring-your-own-device Lab, and coming soon, a Game Room for students to play board games, video games, and hang-out. In case you haven’t heard, the 3D Lab is open for student and community member use!  We continue to provide free-to-use equipment, materials, and servicesRead More →

Hello everyone, Last week, 3D Lab staff assisted in a project requested by Caskey’s Campground.  We laser engraved wooden “medals” to be awarded during Dylan’s Dash, a race schedule for June 12th. The material was obtained from Rowmark based in Findlay, Ohio.  Rowmark is a leading manufacturer of engravable sheet plastic (and wood) for awards, engraving, signage as well as materials for dye sublimation and digital printing.  Blue stained wood was chosen for this project, sealed by polyurethane. Caskey’s Campground provided the medal artwork which was engraved on both sides of the medal, then cut into ovals with the laser.  They turned out beautifully! ThisRead More →

Hello everyone, Finals Week came to a close last week.  Students taking online and in-person classes look forward to a break this summer before coming back for classes this fall.  In the 3D Lab, we’ve been fixing and improving equipment, also providing service to a continual stream of community requests that keeps us busy, too.  Numerous projects are made on the laser engraver, 3D printer, posters of various sizes, too.  Even while the pandemic is slowly changing for the better, students & patrons still wanna make!  Even goldfish at our local library are enjoying 3D printing nowadays. The 3D Lab continues to provide free servicesRead More →

Hello everyone, Maker Faire Wayne County is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning.  Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds.  The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community. The Daily Record said it best: “Dubbed the ‘Greatest Show and Tell on Earth’; over 1,200 people flocked to the third annual faire at the University of Akron Wayne College the summerRead More →

Hello everyone, The Spring semester is flying by with less than two months before its end.  Despite the pandemic restricting gatherings in the 3D Lab, there is a constant stream of community requests to make things such as laser engraved/cut items, 3D printed objects, posters, and vinyl decals.  Community groups like Schantz Makerspace plans to make a comeback this Spring, looking to host their first 2021 monthly meeting in the next month or two.  Bringing people together again is what makerspace is all about, to share ideas, build and fix things, and learn from and fellowship with each other. While the 3D Lab continues toRead More →

Hello everyone, With the pleasant (and somewhat alarming) snowfall a couple of days ago, it feels more like the holidays than ever!  The fall semester finished up last week; engineering students risked robotic life-and-limb with the annual Battle Bots Tournament while others completed homework and chilled in the tranquil 3D Lab environment.  Having finished their final round of exams, our students look forward to a month of taking it easy and being with loved ones.  Despite coronavirus restrictions, regular community member requests kept us busy in the 3D Lab.  Almost every day our lab staff received materials & design files, fabricated the requests on ourRead More →

Hello everyone, It’s hard to believe that the Fall semester is nearly halfway finished.  Fall is absolutely gorgeous this year with bright red and golden leaves adorning every inch of our rural campus. Students in the Tools for Engineering class will be unveiling robots soon, including robots for the Battle Bots tournament in November.  The most challenging project for this class is the stair step climbing robots which reveal some really original student designs. Even though the 3D Lab is closed over the fall semester due to COVID precautions, its services are ready and available.  If you have projects that need 3D printed, laser engraved,Read More →
