About Us

Welcome,

We are Community Cares! An initiative to inspire and unite people in the Akron community and beyond.

As therapists, we work on empowering, supporting and enriching the lives of others. Even under normal circumstances it can be difficult to achieve these goals. COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of millions. Now more than ever we want to encourage others to unite even when they can’t be together.

We created this site as part of our class on the psychology of oppression. We recognize that marginalized and oppressed groups are particularly vulnerable at times like these but EVERYONE could use some form of support. Here we want to provide information to resources in the community, strategies for coping and create a place for people to share their stories.

This project is the undertaking of a group of counseling psychology and sociology Ph.D students who have engaged in various levels of social justice training, community activism, consultation, educational training, and psychological and sociological research.

The following pages contain links to daily discussion topics, community resources, coping skills, recipes and more!

Please join us as we share some of our thoughts each day! You can access it by selecting the date under the “Today’s Thought” tab.
