MCHS – Win $250 with a 15 minute argument!

The University of Akron Moot Court Honor Society will be hosting its second annual internal moot court competition on Saturday, April 9, begining at 10am.  This year, competitors will be competing for a first place prize of $250. This year’s runner up will receive a $100 consolation.

On Friday April 1, all persons interested in competing will receive a closed problem including the issue presented and all applicable case law. No outside research is needed or permitted, nor will any competitor need to prepare a brief.

Using the provided materials, competitors will prepare a 15 minute argument for each side of the case.  On the day of the competition, competitors will be randomly seeded and the side argued will be decided by coin flip. Preliminary rounds will begin at 10am, with the final round ending no later than 4pm.

Free lunch will be provided to all participants.

The competition is open to all 2L, 3L, and 4L students. 1L students are encouraged to attend as this is a fantastic opportunity to watch and learn from the performance of their fellow classmates and from the feedback from the competition judges before giving their own LARW arguments in the coming weeks.

This is an excellent opportunity to practice your advocacy skills, compete against your friends and colleagues, and receive great feedback from experienced moot court competitors, professors, practitioners. Not to mention the chance to win a couple hundred dollars!

All those interested in participating should contact Kevin Kita at KevinKita@gmail.com.
