Kegler Brown to host Diversity Reception in Columbus – December 1 at 5 p.m.

GREAT NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY  — KEGLER BROWN’S DIVERSITY RECEPTION – Thursday, December 1, 2011 – 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Join us at our downtown office on Thursday, December 1, as Kegler Brown celebrates the impact of cultural diversity on the Columbus legal community.

It will be a night of celebration as the firm announces the addition of a second Kegler Brown Minority Merit Scholarship . The two $5,000 scholarships include paid summer clerkship positions with the firm’s first-year summer associate class. All first-year law students of minority descent are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

At this reception, you will have the chance to meet Kegler Brown attorneys, network with other law school students, and learn more about the diversity initiatives that have become so important to our firm, including the Managing Directors’ Diversity Initiative, the Women Lawyers’ Initiative and our Minority Merit Scholarship .

IPTLA – Advertising Law Presentation

Adam M. Ekonomon will present on the basics of advertising law.  Adam’s presentation will feature specific examples of advertisements.  Adam will discuss the Lanham Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act, and federal and state regulations.  Adam is the Director of Marketing, Advertising and Regulatory Law and Assistant General Counsel of The J.M. Smucker Company. Its family of brands includes Smucker’s, Folgers, Jif, and Crisco. Adam is an Akron Law graduate and has worked in private practice, as well as in house.

Two tickets left for this Friday’s Women in Law Fashion Show

The University of Akron School of Law Office of External Programs has purchased a table for ten to the Second Annual Women in Law Fashion Show, hosted by the Women in Law Section of the Akron Bar Association. The fashion show, featuring professional dress for men and women, including vintage designs, will be held this Friday, November 11, 2011 at 6 p.m. at Portage Country Club.

Law and Leadership Institute seeks to hire law student

The Law and Leadership Institute seeks a law student to teach eleventh grade students. The Law and Leadership Institute introduces promising high school students from under-served urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership. The student hired would join a law student currently teaching in the program. You must be available to teach on the following dates: January 26, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), January 27, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 2, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 3, 2012 (4:00-6:30 p.m.), February 11, 2011, February 18, 2011, March 3, 2011, March 24, 2011 and March 31, 2011.  The compensation is $115.00 per class. Your cover letter should detail any teaching experience or experience working with at-risk youth. Applications are due by Monday, November 21, 2011.
