Community Service and Networking Opportunity

Earn community service hours and network with Akron area entrepreneurs!  Two law student volunteers are needed to assist with the NEXT Ohio Internet Conference, an event sponsored exclusively by Thompson Hine.  Volunteers will assist with event set up, registration and other duties.

The event will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 5:30pm – 10:30pm at Quaker Station.  We will need the volunteers to arrive by 4:00pm and stay until 7:30pm. Networking will take place from 7:30 – 10:30pm and volunteers are encouraged to stay and make connections.

SUMMER JOB PLACEMENT AWARD
APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015
$2,500.00 to one upper division law student
Must work 20 hours per week for not less than 10 weeks
The School of Law is accepting applications for the David D. Dowd Sr. Memorial Award. Named in tribute to a distinguished attorney dedicated to public service and created by Judge David D. Dowd, Jr. upon the 25th anniversary of his service in the federal judiciary, the purpose of the Dowd Award is to promote a commitment to public service for all lawyers. Dowd Awards are directed to Akron Law students interested in seeking professional careers in public service following graduation.
To be eligible, you must:
1. Complete your second year by Spring of 2015
2. Show a commitment to public service
3. Be capable of working 20 hours per week during the summer of 2015 for minimum of ten weeks
in a public service position
4. Be committed to working in a public setting upon graduation Placements this summer – in order of preference:
1st Preference: The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, The Stark County Prosecutor’s Office, The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office; law departments for Akron, Canton, Massillon; and Public Defender’s Offices in Summit and Stark counties.
2nd Preference: The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio or the Public Defender’s Office for the District
3rd Preference: Other prosecutors’ or law directors’ offices
4th Preference: Other not already listed public service agencies

Russ Pry – County Executive – CBA Speaker: April 2, 2014

The College of Business Graduate Programs office is hosting Russ Pry, County Executive and Akron Law Alumnus on Thursday April 2, 2014 from noon until 2p.m. The event will be held in the College of Business (right next door) in room 258 on the second floor, and is apart of the H. Peter Burg Speaker Series. The lecture series was created in 2012 to provide an opportunity for University of Akron students to learn from highly successful alumni, local business and community champions and nationally recognized leaders.

BLSA would like to cordially invite you all to join us as we celebrate the end of another phenomenal year! The annual banquet is BLSA’s chance to celebrate and acknowledge the accomplishments of its chapter and the local Attorneys who strive to make equality a reality in our legal community. We will be holding our annual BLSA Banquet on April 11, 2015, at 6:30PM in the Grand Ballroom of Quaker Inn.

This year’s theme is “A Call for Unity,” inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Student tickets are available for only $35 and full tables can be purchased for only $400. It is a great way to interact with local Judges, Attorneys, and other professionals from the Akron/canton area.
