The HEAL program is seeking a volunteer law student who is interested in developing skills in the following areas: client interviewing, case management, document drafting, document review, and drafting advice letters. In addition, the volunteer will be involved in researching legal and policy issues and drafting memoranda related to (1) reduction of health disparities through policy change that addresses social determinants of health; (2) implementation of the Affordable Care Act, in collaboration with statewide advocacy groups; and (3) expansion of the medical legal partnership model in Legal Aid’s service area. Depending on interest, need, and capacity, the volunteer may have the option to take on a specific semester long project. The volunteer will work closely with the Managing Attorney for the HEAL program and will get both poverty law and health policy experience. The volunteer is asked to commit at least 15 hours per week to the project during business hours of 8:30am and 5pm.
