AkronLegalJobs No. 6954 Overview: This is an UNPAID – VOLUNTEER position. Will be working at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Cleveland Office which is located in the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Courthouse in downtown Cleveland.
Duties will include working with cases regarding asylum, cancellation of removal, and adjustment of status as well as issues regarding whether an individual is removable from the United States based on a criminal conviction. You may draft decisions on applications for relief from removal or removability; Performing in-depth research and analysis of novel legal issues; and will preparing bench memoranda. Interns will be able to observe removal hearings and work on cases involving several forms of relief including asylum, adjustment of status and cancellation of removal.
Interns will work directly under the supervision of the Judicial Law Clerk/Attorney Advisor and will also work with individual immigration judges.
Since this is an unpaid internship, students interested in receiving stipends or academic credit from their law school should contact the appropriate person and their school to determine their eligibility.
Qualifications: 1L or 2L. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to pass an FBI background check.
