Akron Bar Foundation Fellowship

The Career Planning Office is excited to announce that the Akron Bar Foundation has created a fellowship to fund first and second year law students with a stipend while the student(s) is performing a summer clerkship with a not-for-profit, public interest or government position. The ABF Fellowship is available to any University of Akron Law School student completing their first or second year (full-time program) or second and third year (part-time program) curriculum. Recipients must commit to working in the position for at least 25 hours per week for a period of not less than ten (10) weeks, starting the third week of May. Students must arrange for work in a not-for-profit, public interest or government position prior to submitting an application. To apply, students must submit an application to the Career Planning Office by 12 noon on Friday, March 18. The application that is submitted must include: (i) a completed and signed Fellowship Program application form (available in the CPPO); (ii) law and graduate school (if applicable) transcripts (official copy, if possible), honors and awards; (iii) a current resume; (iv) a personal statement; (v) a statement from the employer confirming employment and the anticipated dates of employment; and (vi) such other information as requested. The application also may include letters of recommendation. Up to five applicants for the ABF Fellowship will be chosen for a personal interview to be conducted by select members of the Akron Bar Foundation. The number of ABF fellowships awarded and the amount awarded will be determined by the Akron Bar Foundation, but the amount of an individual award shall not be less than $2,500. Food for (Library) Fines is back! (March 14, 2016 to April 3, 2016)

Did you return a book a little late? Forget what time your laptop was due? Your chance to pay off those charges and help a good cause is here! Starting Monday, March 14, and running through April 3, University Libraries and the Law Library will sponsor their semiannual Food for Fines drive for the Akron-Canton Food Bank. You can bring in nonperishable food items to pay for your fines.

One food item = one dollar toward your fines!

There is no limit on the number of items you may bring in. This offer cannot be used to pay for billed or lost items.

The food is donated to the Akron-Canton Food Bank. Food may be dropped off at the Law Library Circulation Desk, the Bierce Library Circulation Desk or the Science and Technology Library.

Graduating Class Composite Photo Opportunity – April 6th

ATTN: December Graduates and May Graduation Candidates

With changes here at the law school, we have had difficulty with scheduling the class composite photo sittings for graduating students. Please SAVE THE DATE for April 6th, from 2pm to 6pm for the last-chance photo sittings. Just stop by – no appointments necessary. It takes approximately 5 minutes per student. Location: Law Library 3rd floor near the office of Student Services.

There is no cost for participating in this class composite and I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. You will be required to choose one proof for the Class Composite. I will provide you with a digital copy of all the proofs and instructions will be given to notify me of your chosen proof number for the composite photo. A full-size digital file of the proof you choose will be yours to keep. If you wish to order a copy of the Class Composite, you may bring a check made payable to The University of Akron in the amount of $30 at the time of your sitting, or you may order a copy of the Class Composite at a later date through the Student Services Office.
