Late Application to Register as a Candidate for the Feb. 2019 Ohio Bar Exam is Aug. 15

The deadline for a late application to register as a candidate for the February 2019 Ohio bar examination is August 15, 2018.  The dates for the February 2019 Ohio bar examination are February 26, 27, and 28, 2019.

A Celebration of Law Alumnus to Benefit Law Scholarship

A Community Appreciation Luncheon for the Honorable Judge James R. Williams, retired, will be held Saturday, July 28, at 11:30 a.m. in the Jean Hower Taber Student Union, Ballrooms A and B. Proceeds from the event will be donated to The Honorable James R. and Catherine D. Williams Scholarship Fund administered by our School of Law, which has a table at the luncheon.

The event is being presented by Alpha Phi Alpha Homes, Inc., which is operated by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. The Eta Tau Lambda Chapter of the fraternity was established at UA in 1960.

Williams, who earned a B.A.Ed. in 1960 and a J.D. in 1965 at UA, has had a distinguished legal career, both as an attorney and on the bench. He was the first African American judge on the Summit County Common Pleas Court, where he served from 1989 until 2003.

The UA alumnus has been a civil rights leader, active in civic organizations and he also served as national president of Alpha Phi Alpha. He worked to provide housing for moderate and low-income families and senior citizens, serving as the first chairman of Alpha Phi Alpha Homes. He has been honored as one of the “100 Most Influential Black Americans” by Ebony Magazine.

Whitmarsh Family Law, PC Scholarship Opportunity

Michael Whitmarsh, owner of Whitmarsh Family Law, PC, is proudly offering a scholarship for students attending school in the fall of 2018 as either a pre law undergraduate or a first-year law student. This scholarship is intended to help cover the cost of education and related expenses. The recipient must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US, accepted and attending school in the Fall of 2018 and must have at least a 3.0 GPA in order to be considered.

Applicants must submit the following by August 31st, 2018:

  • Resume
  • School transcripts
  • Acceptance letter from a college/ law school
  • Copy of your birth certificate (or permanent residency card)
  • 250 – 500 word essay explaining why you are drawn to the study and practice of law

Scholarship recipient will be announced on September 14, 2018. The intention of the scholarship is to cover tuition and school related expenses. Payment will be provided via check directly to the award winner.
