AkronLawJobs No. 12006: The Law Department of the Cleveland Clinic is staffed by approximately 35 lawyers and an additional 50 support personnel. The Law Department is located on the Cleveland Clinic Administrative Campus in Beachwood, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb. The Attorneys practice in a wide variety of practice areas including medical malpractice, risk management, hospital law, medical staff, clinical research, medical education, commercial transactions, real property, tax-exempt organizations, fraud and abuse, Stark, managed care contracting, labor and employment, and corporate compliance. The Clinic’s Law Department has administered a Summer Associate Program since 1997 for second year law students, i.e., rising third year law students. Students have an opportunity to work with attorneys on a wide variety of matters that affect the legal interests of this international health center. The Summer Associates are required to complete a prescribed regimen of hands-on activities in all of the major areas of practice. The Summer Associates are also given the opportunity to attend various hospital committee meetings. The Cleveland Clinic was founded in 1921 as a nonprofit physician group practice, integrating clinical and hospital care with research and physician education. The Cleveland Clinic has 3,000 salaried physicians on staff, representing approximately 120 specialties and subspecialties. Patients come to the Clinic from across America and from more than 80 nations. Cleveland Clinic and its health system consists of The Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus and numerous regional hospitals in Northern Ohio, as well as Cleveland Clinic Nevada and multiple Florida locations. The Clinic also has international locations, including Abu Dhabi and Canada, and has announced the opening of a London, UK facility. Cleveland Clinic is the No. 2 hospital in the United States according to the latest U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Hospitals” survey. The survey ranks Cleveland Clinic’s Heart Program as No. 1 in the country for the 26th consecutive year. Qualifications: 2L, special consideration will be given to those law students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in the health care field.
Location: It is expected that most or all of the 2021 Program will be virtual and will not require personal presence in Cleveland.**
