Abrahamson & Uiterwyk is offering a law school scholarship contest, with a deadline of July 31, 2021, to students who will be attending an ABA-accredited law school in Fall 2021.

This scholarship is free for students to apply, requires an essay submission and the winning applicant(s) will be awarded $1,500 dollars to put toward their legal education. AkronLawJobs No. 12723: CHIEF JUSTICE AND JUSTICES: The majority of the extern’s time will be spent researching, writing, and analyzing legal issues. This may involve the preparation of draft opinions, bench memos and memos discussing discretionary appeals and complaints for writs, speeches, or individualized research projects. The extern will be assigned to a judicial attorney and will have his/her work reviewed by that attorney. Externs will also be able to observe oral arguments on the merits of cases when the Court is in session.

Children & Families Services Domestic Violence Program

The position is anticipated to be 10-15 hours per week. The Domestic Violence Program provides technical assistance, training, and policy recommendations to improve court performance in cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. The Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence makes policy recommendations to the Supreme Court of Ohio through the section. Current projects include developing guidance materials surrounding risk assessment, strangulation, victims’ rights, firearm issues, and domestic violence for courts.

The extern will perform legal research and writing on domestic violence related law and assistance with editing materials created on the above topics. The ideal extern is a 2L or 3L and has interest in family or domestic violence law, but not required.

Attorney Services Division
Office of Attorney Services

The position is anticipated to be for 12-16 hours per week, but this is flexible. The Office of Attorney Services coordinates the work of the Attorney Services Division and provides staff assistance and oversight to several areas of the court. The extern will support projects related to the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program, which pairs new lawyers with experienced mentors as a way to satisfy mandatory New Lawyer Training. Projects include, but are not limited to: ensuring that curriculum-related mentoring worksheets are up to date, assisting the Commission on Professionalism in meeting preparation and follow up, other Commission projects as assigned, mostly in the form of publications and live events. The extern would also assist with Office-related tasks and duties

related to the Board on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. The ideal extern is a 2L with excellent attention to detail, outstanding organizational ability, strong interpersonal communication skills, and expertise in Word and Adobe software.

UNIVERSITY OF AKRON SCHOOL OF LAW FALL 2021 IN-PERSON LEARNING AND TEACHING POLICIES

The following are the policies regarding teaching and learning at the School of Law for the Fall 2021 semester.  These policies are subject to change if necessary due to public health conditions, government regulations or guidelines, University regulations or policies, accreditation requirements, or other factors.

Student learning.  For any course listed as in-person on the schedule, students will be required to attend class in person unless the UA Office of Accessibility has granted an accommodation that allows them to take classes online.  Students seeking an accommodation should contact the Office of Accessibility (https://www.uakron.edu/access/, access@uakron.edu, 330-972-7928).  Instructors may make limited exceptions for pedagogical reasons or to accommodate temporary circumstances such as illness; however, instructors should consult with Associate Dean Emily Janoski-Haehlen (ejanoskihaehlen@uakron.edu) to verify consistency with accreditation standards and school policy.

Faculty teaching.  The administration will determine the delivery mode of each course in consultation with the faculty member.  For courses offered on an in-person basis, instructors will be required to teach in person unless the UA Office of Human Resources has granted an ADA accommodation that allows them to teach online.
