The John T. Fields & Associates, LLC Fight Against Domestic Violence Scholarship offers financial support to students who have been impacted by domestic violence or who are dedicated to combating it. This scholarship aims to help students further their education while raising awareness about domestic violence and its effects. Below are the details for eligibility and application:

Eligibility:

• At least 18 years old
• U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (undergraduate or graduate program)
• A personal experience with domestic violence or a strong interest in addressing solutions to combat it

Application Requirements:

• Submit an essay (up to 1,000 words) discussing the impact of domestic violence in the U.S. and proposing potential solutions
• Essays will be evaluated based on relevance, clarity, and quality of writing

Deadline:

• April 14, 2025

The Fred Gray Civil Rights Writing Competition honors the legacy of civil rights attorney Fred Gray, who represented Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the victims of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

Law students are invited to submit scholarly essays on critical civil rights issues, including voting rights, racial discrimination, public education, and fair treatment in the criminal justice system.

Competition Details:

• Eligibility: J.D. and LL.M. students at ABA-accredited law schools
• Essay Length: 5,000 – 8,000 words
• Deadline: February 28, 2025
• Prizes: $7,500 (1st), $5,000 (2nd), $2,500 (3rd)
• Additional Recognition: Winning authors may be invited to the Lanier Trial Academy in Houston, Texas.

The Magaña & Van Dyke Dominick Marsala Memorial Scholarship awards $1,000 each semester to students pursuing higher education. Applicants must:

• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Be enrolled in an accredited college or university for the Fall 2025 semester.
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
• Submit a 3-minute video answering the prompt about a lifelong hobby and how they plan to balance it with their academic and work responsibilities.
• Provide proof of enrollment and GPA.

The Break Out Bail Bonds Bridge to Success Scholarship is a $1,000 award aimed at supporting students from immigrant or refugee families pursuing higher education in the U.S.

• Candidates must be immigrants or refugees, having experienced the journey of starting anew in the United States.

• Applications must be 18 years of age or older by the application deadline.

• Open to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled or have been accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States.

To apply, candidates must submit:

1. An academic transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance.
2. A 500-word essay or 2-minute video describing a significant challenge they faced when moving to the U.S. and how they overcame it.

Allen County Bar Foundation Legal Opportunity Scholarship Application

The Allen County Bar Foundation Legal Opportunity Scholarship promotes equal access to the legal system by helping students with ties to Allen County enter or continue law school and prepare to join the legal profession.

• • Application period: March 1 through April 15, 2025
  • Law students are eligible to receive up to $2,500 for tuition and fees or bar preparation or bar examination fees
  • Undergraduate students are eligible to receive up to $1,500 for LSAT fees and/or LSAT preparation services
  • Scholarships will be awarded in May 2025

Requirements:

• • Must be planning to take the LSAT and apply to law school, preparing to enter law school, or enrolled in law school
  • Must describe how they support or advance the idea of equal access to the legal system for all individuals
  • Must be from or intend to work in Allen County, Indiana
  • Must demonstrate financial need

The scholarship will be made payable to the student’s school or a testing or examination preparation company. As noted above, the funds may be used for expenses related to law school or becoming a licensed attorney, such as tuition and school fees, LSAT fees, LSAT preparation, bar examination fees, or bar examination preparation.
