AkronLawJobs Job No. 3306 – The Law and Leadership Institute, LLC (LLI) seeks law student teachers that are excellent presenters, organized, and reliable for the 2012 LLI Summer Institute.  LLI introduces promising high school students from underserved urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership.  Students enrolled in the program gain critical academic skills in studying, test-taking and writing, in addition to self-confidence, an awareness of college-level expectations and interaction with positive role models who encourage and nurture their educational and professional goals.  LLI is dedicated to helping its students achieve success as future college and law students, and leaders in their communities and professions.

Contract Teachers will receive $4,000 for teaching 9th grade (June 25-July 27, 2012), or $3,000 for teaching 10th, 11th or 12th grade (June 25-July 20, 2012), and attending training (June 13-15).  Teachers are assigned to classrooms in pairs and are supported by a public high school teacher.  The student/teacher ratio likely will be 10:1 for 9th grade and 8:1 for 10th, 11th and 12th grades.  Contract Teachers must be law students in good standing and will be required to satisfy a background check.  Prior teaching experience is preferred.  Completing an Independent Contractor form is also required.

LLI will provide:

  • Curriculum, Classroom forms and materials
  • Class roster (after registration period is complete)
  • LLI Student Handbook (rules/regulations for students)
  • Curriculum/Leadership Training on June 13-15 in Columbus (required)
  • LLI Evaluation materials

Contract Teachers will be given curriculum to review well in advance of the beginning of the 2012 Summer Institute.  There will be one teacher meeting during the 2012 Summer Institute and in-service days can be scheduled dependent upon teacher needs.

Contract Teachers will also be responsible for monitoring their class at lunch and on field trips (although professional volunteers may also be available during those times).
