The Ohio State Bar Association Litigation Section 2015 Public Service Internship Initiative supports law students who are committed to public service. Under the initiative, the Litigation Section will award $1,600 to one student at an Ohio law school and $1,600 to an Ohio resident attending any law school in the United States of America to help underwrite the cost of their summer public sector or public interest internships. While it is not necessary to secure an internship prior to applying, disbursement is contingent on obtaining a placement with a public sector or public interest employer.
Applicant eligibility
1. The applicant must be: (1) a law student attending an Ohio law school or (2) a law student who is an Ohio resident attending law school anywhere in the United States of America.
2. The applicant must wish to practice in Ohio after law school.
Evaluation criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to public service and the quality of the essay submission.
Application process
To apply, please submit the following materials to Melissa Quick, Ohio State Bar Association, P.O. Box 16562, 1700 Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43216 postmarked no later than April 10, 2015:
1. Cover letter;
2. Resume (without grade information);
3. Essay in response to the following question: “Describe your commitment to public service. How have your past interests and work experiences contributed to your proposed summer internship responsibilities?” While it is not necessary to secure an internship prior to applying, applicants should include information pertaining to their internship prospects. The essay should be no longer than two double-spaced pages. The essay must also be in Times New Roman font and have one-inch margins.

Award recipients will be announced on June 5, 2015.
