The Gold Law Firm Challenge Yourself Scholarship

Amount Awarded: $1,000 (five awards per semester)

The Gold Law Firm Challenge Yourself Scholarship honors the legacy of Kevin Maez (1986–2022), a man who overcame significant challenges to build a meaningful life. Despite dropping out of high school, Kevin earned his GED, pursued an associate’s degree in computer science, and went on to excel in his career with the State of Colorado and RTD. In his memory, The Gold Law Firm offers this scholarship to support ambitious students who demonstrate resilience and a commitment to personal growth.

Eligibility:

  • First-time college freshmen enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited U.S. college or university
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • At least 17 years of age upon applying
  • Participation in one or more of the following during high school or earlier:
    • Scouts
    • Acting/Theatre
    • Debate Club
    • Speech

Requirements:

  • A 500-word essay responding to:
    How has participation in activities such as scouts, acting, debate, and/or speech helped you get through difficult periods of your life, build leadership skills, or prepared you for success in the future?
  • Include at least one embedded image within the essay
  • Submit contact information and proof of enrollment for the upcoming semester (e.g., class schedule, acceptance letter, or current transcript)
  • All documents must be in PDF or .docx format

Selection Criteria:

  • Fulfillment of eligibility requirements
  • Completeness and quality of submitted materials
  • Originality, organization, and clarity of the essay
