Summit County Prosecutor’s Office – Delinquency Division – seeking interns ASAP!

Seeking legal interns for the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office – Delinquency Division. Applicants MUST have an an intern certificate (or be eligible to get one). The Delinquency Division prosecutes youth under 18 who are charged with a crime, traffic offense or truancy in Summit County. Our office is located at Juvenile Court (650 Dan Street). This is an unpaid internship, but we will work with youth who coordinate their hours for credit. Interns will assist with office help, case preparation, legal research and writing and will handle their own cases in court (from pretrial all the way through trial and disposition.) It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in courtroom work, trial work, or criminal law generally. Interns will be supervised by division attorneys, and will be taught our practice from the ground up. Applicants must be able to work independently, with exceptional organization skills, and be able to work well with others. If anyone has questions, they should contact me directly via email. Applicants should send a resume and a letter outlining their availability (days/times during the week and the number of hours they want to work) to my attention: pasternak@prosecutor.summitoh.net. We hope to fill spots for 2 legal interns as soon as possible.

Note: This internship is eligible for the Public Interest Stipend. Contact Career Services for more info!

*Expungement Clinic Seeking Student Volunteers*

The Expungement Clinic helps low-income Summit County residents seal the record of their criminal convictions. A sealed record enables many people better access to jobs, housing, and volunteer opportunities. Students will learn integral skills in the legal field including filing paperwork with the court, drafting motions, interviewing real clients, and communicating with clients both through the mail and over the phone. Students who are eligible for a legal intern certificate will have ample opportunities to appear in court and present an oral argument.

A student commitment to the Expungement Clinic can be for as few or as many hours as the student pleases. We do ask that you commit to at least one of our upcoming Saturday Outreach Clinics so we know how many volunteers we will have at each clinic.

UARF I-Corps Program – earn pro bono hours!

The University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF) runs a very unique program called the I-Corps Sites program. It is a seven week customer discovery program to help tech (and non-tech) entrepreneurs find product market fit. We are currently able to accommodate university teams (National Science Foundation sponsored), community teams, and teams led by minorities and/or women. We are currently looking for enthusiastic, outgoing, and team-oriented law, business, engineering, and many other students to serve as team members to our participants. For law students, participation would count for general community service hours and if you are paired with a “limited means” company/team, then the hours would count for community service hours of limited means. We will be hosting an information session at the EX[L] Center in UA’s Bierce Library in the middle of campus on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 12-1pm. There will be food and drink provided for the information session. Interested individuals can either apply at www.uakron.edu/icorps by clicking on “Apply” and then filling out the application for “Student Entrepreneur,” attend the 9/9 information session, or contact Dan Hampu at dhampu@uakron.edu.
