Cleveland, Oh – Summer / Fall Legal Clerk – City of Cleveland Department of Law
AkronLawJobs No. 7090 Overview: Seeking law students for legal clerkships for the summer of 2016. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a public sector environment.
Duties: Choose from either the Civil Division which is divided into six sections: Development, Code Enforcement, Safety, House Counsel, Litigation, and Operations and Sustainability or the Criminal Division which prosecutes misdemeanor crimes in Cleveland and reviews felony cases to determine whether they should be bound over to a grand jury for county prosecution.
Duty description: Consists of challenging work in a broad range of practice areas; instruction in municipal law; feedback on legal research and writing; professional skills workshops; and guest speakers.
Compensation: Summer clerks may receive academic credit from their law school, use federal work-study dollars, receive a public-interest scholarship, or seek a stipend from an organization such as a bar association. The Law Department will assist in securing any necessary approvals, but the individual law clerks are solely responsible for making such compensation arrangements. DUE TO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS, ALL AVAILABLE POSITIONS IN 2016 WILL BE UNPAID.
Qualifications: 1L, 2L.

Additional Quiet Space in Quaker Square – Suite 410
In response to inquiries about additional quiet study space in Quaker Square, we were able to secure some quiet space on the 4th floor nearby the clinics. Effective immediately, you will have access to Suite 410 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (M-F) with a few exceptions. A calendar will be posted outside of the suite letting you know when we need to vacate the suite for conflicting events. The dates that are currently not available for quiet studying in the suite include:
Monday (Feb. 28th) 11:00 am – 2:30 pm
Tuesday ( Feb. 16th and 23rd): Noon – 2:00 pm
Wednesdays (Feb 10th, 17th and 24th): 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Paid Student Intern Position – Akron Law Expungement Clinic

AkronLawJobs No. 7079 Overview: Hiring ONE paid student to start AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The Expungement Clinic helps low-income residents with the court process to seal the record of their criminal convictions. A sealed record allows better access to employment and housing and removes the stigma associated with a criminal conviction.
Duties: Representing clients. Training new volunteers. Communicating with clients. Conducting community presentations. Provide administrative support for the program.
Qualifications: 1L, 2L, 3L. Must be willing to commit 5 hours per week. Students who are eligible for a legal intern certificate will appear in court and represent clients at the expungement hearings.
