Announcing the Summer 2014 Akron Bar Association Minority Clerkship Program!

Summer 2014 Minority Clerkship Program: A joint project of the Akron Bar Association Diversity Committee and The University of Akron School of Law

The Career Planning Office announces the 2014 Summer Minority Clerkship Program (the “Program”). Initiated in 1990 by the Akron Bar Association, the Program has been very successful over the years. Now co-sponsored by the University of Akron School of Law, the Program is designed to provide real-world work experience for minority students in area law firms, corporations, government agencies, and courts. The ultimate goal is increased minority involvement in all aspects of the practice of law in the greater Akron community.

All full-time first year and part-time second year minority students in good academic standing are eligible to apply to participate in the Program. For your information, the Program timetable is below.

We encourage all eligible students to apply for participation in the Program. The Program will not only give you the opportunity to gain valuable legal experience, it will also afford you the ability to make informed decisions about your future by providing an insider’s view of what it is like to practice law.

Fugitive Safe Surrender, the House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Rd., Akron, OH, June 25 – 28, 2014, 10 AM to 6 PM – Pro Bono Limited Means hours!

On the above dates and times the Ohio Attorney General’s office, in partnership with every major County and City of Akron public organization, will be conducting the most recent of several safe surrender programs. These programs were started by the United States Marshal several years ago and have now been taken over, in Ohio, by the Ohio Atty. Gen.’s office. The goal of the program is to create a safe haven for individuals with outstanding warrants, misdemeanor or felony, to surrender and have their cases disposed of before a Judge.
In the past events over the four days of these programs each year, over one thousand people have surrendered each time. The benefit to the community is that individuals who have outstanding warrants feel free to surrender, the need to arrest people unexpectedly is removed, and the fugitives can go on with their lives. This is a worthwhile program and a great way to earn your pro bono of limited means hours.
