The Law and Leadership Institute (LLI) seeks law student instructors for summer!

The Law and Leadership Institute, LLC (LLI) seeks law student instructors that are excellent presenters, organized, and reliable for the 2013 LLI Summer Institute.  LLI introduces promising high school students from underserved urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership.  Students enrolled in the program gain critical academic skills in studying, test-taking and writing, in addition to self-confidence, an awareness of college-level expectations and interaction with positive role models who encourage and nurture their educational and professional goals.  LLI is dedicated to helping its students achieve success as future college and law students, and leaders in their communities and professions.

Instructors will receive $4,000 for teaching 9th grade (June 24-July 26, 2013), or $3,000 for teaching 10th grade (June 24-July 19, 2013), or $2,250 for teaching 11th or 12th grade (June 24-July 19, 2013); and attending training (June 13-14).  Instructors are assigned to classrooms in pairs and are supported by a public high school teacher.  The student/teacher ratio likely will be 10:1 for 9th grade and 8:1 for 10th, 11th and 12th grades. Instructors must be law students in good standing and will be required to satisfy a background check.  Prior teaching experience is preferred.

LLI will provide:

  • Curriculum, Classroom forms and materials
  • Class roster (after registration period is complete)
  • LLI Student Handbook (rules/regulations for students)
  • Curriculum/Leadership Training on June 13-14 in Columbus (required)
  • LLI Evaluation materials
  • Plus, lots of support and encouragement!

Instructors will be given curriculum to review well in advance of the beginning of the 2013 Summer Institute.  There will be one teacher meeting during the 2013 Summer Institute and in-service days can be scheduled dependent upon teacher needs.

Instructors will also be responsible for monitoring their class at lunch and on field trips (although professional volunteers may also be available during those times).

Submit a current resume and cover letter by March 29, 2013 to Professor Joann Sahl, jsahl1@uakron.edu. Your cover letter should include any teaching experience or experience working with underprivileged youth.

2013 Patent Law Interview Program – Chicago, IL **Register Now** Deadline is March 4th!

The Loyola Patent Law Interview Program is a two-day interview program held in Chicago each summer that brings together patent law employers and law students from across the country for summer associate and post-graduate positions. Each year roughly 1,500 law students register for the program, submit their resumes, and bid on interviews with the nation-wide employers that interest them. The program is entirely employer selected – which means that participating employers review the resumes submitted to them and choose the law students they are interested in interviewing at the program. Roughly half of the students registered for the program are selected for interviews each year. The 2013 Patent Law Interview Program will be held Thursday, August 1 & Friday, August 2 at the Embassy Suites Chicago – Downtown. Student registration will be open from Monday, February 11 and will end on Monday, March 4. Questions and to Register: Check out http://www.luc.edu/law/career/patent_schools.html for more information on this year’s program. If you can’t find an answer there, please email Law-PatentProgram@luc.edu.
