Girls on the Run of Greater Summit is hosting its annual 5k race on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at 9:30 am at Blossom Music Center. Over 1,200 3rd-5th grade girls and their families will be participating in this exciting 5k race which marks the end of the Fall 2012 season for Girls on the Run. Volunteers are needed before, during and after the race for registration and packet pick-up, craft stations, course support and water stops, cleanup, and other needs. East South Street Neighborhood Watch and Christ is the Answer Ministries sponsors a free community meal every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 379 E. South Street, Akron, Ohio 44311. Volunteers are needed to set up for the meal, serve food, and clean up after the meal. The Summit County Legal Defenders Office Juvenile Law Program is seeking second or third year law students who are interested in acquiring required pro bono hours or a great learning experience. Volunteers will interview juvenile detainees and their parents, assist the assigned public defender, and sit in on detention hearings. Opportunities are available Monday through Friday. Students are expected to be at the Juvenile Center on Dan Street in Akron at 6:45 am and stay till roughly 9 am. Those interested should email Dan Doverspike at dld13@zips.uakron.edu
