AkronLawJobs Job No. 3306 – The Law and Leadership Institute, LLC (LLI) seeks law student teachers that are excellent presenters, organized, and reliable for the 2012 LLI Summer Institute.  LLI introduces promising high school students from underserved urban communities in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo to the legal profession through an intensive college preparatory program on law and leadership.  Students enrolled in the program gain critical academic skills in studying, test-taking and writing, in addition to self-confidence, an awareness of college-level expectations and interaction with positive role models who encourage and nurture their educational and professional goals.  LLI is dedicated to helping its students achieve success as future college and law students, and leaders in their communities and professions.

 Contract Teachers will receive $4,000 for teaching 9th grade (June 25-July 27, 2012), or $3,000 for teaching 10th, 11th or 12th grade (June 25-July 20, 2012), and attending training (June 13-15).  Teachers are assigned to classrooms in pairs and are supported by a public high school teacher.  The student/teacher ratio likely will be 10:1 for 9th grade and 8:1 for 10th, 11th and 12th grades.  Contract Teachers must be law students in good standing and will be required to satisfy a background check.  Prior teaching experience is preferred.  Completing an Independent Contractor form is also required.  

LLI will provide:

  • Curriculum, Classroom forms and materials
  • Class roster (after registration period is complete)
  • LLI Student Handbook (rules/regulations for students)
  • Curriculum/Leadership Training on June 13-15 in Columbus (required)
  • LLI Evaluation materials 

Contract Teachers will be given curriculum to review well in advance of the beginning of the 2012 Summer Institute.  There will be one teacher meeting during the 2012 Summer Institute and in-service days can be scheduled dependent upon teacher needs.

 

Contract Teachers will also be responsible for monitoring their class at lunch and on field trips (although professional volunteers may also be available during those times).

Pro Bono of Limited Means Opportunity!

On May 2, 2012, the Akron Bar Association and Community Legal Aid Services will sponsor the annual Law Week free legal clinic from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Job Center, 1040 E. Tallmadge Avenue, Akron, OH.  Law students are needed to assist attorneys volunteering for this clinic. You may volunteer for the morning shift (8:30 a.m. to noon) the afternoon shift (noon to 4:00 p.m.) or both shifts. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Law Clerk Position

The Egyptian-American Rule of Law Association (EARLA) seeks a second or third year law student to serve as a pro bono law clerk for ten weeks.  EARLA is a non-profit organization that provides technical legal assistance to promote the rule of law inEgypt. Law clerks work virtually from home or in EARLA’s Washington, DC office on various substantive projects, including but not limited to, drafting policy papers on various aspects of Egyptian law, analyzing ongoing changes in Egypt’s legal system and politics, raising public awareness about rule of law in Egypt through social media, assisting in fundraising, attending conferences on behalf of EARLA, and preparing for and attending high profile public policy panels at leading think tanks.

EARLA will consider the following criteria when making its hiring decision:

  • Strong interest in rule of law, international law, and theMiddle East
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent legal writing skills
  • Strong legal research skills
  • Ability to multi-task under short deadlines
  • Willingness to perform administrative tasks
  • Fluency in Arabic speaking or reading is preferred but not required
  • Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week during the semester and 15 hours per week during the summers
  • Possesses a positive, can-do attitude
