The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland – Pro Bono Opportunities!

Next week is National Celebrate Pro Bono Week!  The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is hosting a number of events, both for clients and to recognize their volunteers.  Below is the list of student volunteer opportunities.  As always, you do not need any experience nor do you need to bring any materials.   All volunteers will meet with a Legal Aid Supervisor for about 15 minutes prior to each event to explain what needs to be done and how to do it.  If you are interested in any of these, please email Lauren Gilbride at lauren.gilbride@lasclev.org.  Please only pick one event.  Each volunteer will receive a  logistics sheet  a few days prior to the event.

New Community Service – Limited Means Opportunity

There are two adaptive recreation basketball programs this fall that would welcome volunteers who could assist the participants during practices and games.  The two programs will be at the Solon Community Center, 35000 Portz Parkway, Solon, OH 44139, and at the Orange High School, 32000 Chagrin Blvd., Pepper Pike, OH 44124.

The program at Solon will be on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., from October 6 to October 27.  The program at Orange High School will on most Sunday afternoons from 12:30-1:30 p.m. from November 13 through March of 2012.

The participants in these programs are young adults (mostly persons in their 20s and 30s) with mental disabilities.  Volunteering for this program qualifies as a community service activity for persons of limited means.

If you are interested in assisting at any sessions of either the Solon or the Orange program please contact Wilson Huhn, 216-789-0507, or whuhn@uakron.edu.
