Inmate Assistance Program

Seeking students to work in the Inmate Assistance Program paid position – $9.50 per hour up to 20 hours per week. Student will travel to Summit County jail once a week, every week, on Tuesday mornings, meet with inmates who have legal questions, and research and draft letters back to the inmates.  Students interested in developing interviewing, research, and writing skills should apply. Our clinic graduates use their skills in civil and criminal contexts as Public Defenders, County Prosecutors, Legal Aid lawyers, judicial law clerks, and civil practitioners.  Students must be willing to commit to the program for one year.

Qualifications:  All students are invited to apply.

Duties: Students have the opportunity to work with attorneys on a wide variety of matters that affect the legal interests of this international health center. Summer Associates are required to complete a prescribed regimen of hands-on activities in all of the major areas of practice. The Summer Associates are also given the opportunity to attend various hospital committee meetings.

Qualifications: 2L. Special consideration will be given to those students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in the health care field.

Salvation Army needs volunteers this Saturday!

The Salvation Army has a volunteer emergency and we’re seeking help for our Big Christmas Distribution here at The Citadel, 190 S. Maple Street, Akron, 44302.
Volunteers are needed this Saturday, December 15 in three shifts:  From 8 to noon, from noon to 4 and from 4 to 7pm.
We need folks to help in three areas:  1) directing traffic for the appointments, 2) escorting families with carts of large bundles of toys from the gym to help load in their cars and 3) helping load boxes of food in cars from the garage.
All positions are outdoors, so folks must dress warmly.  The job is not recommended for anyone younger than high school age as some lifting is required.  Ask your lodge, church, neighbors, friends and family, please.  If anyone at all can come and help for a shift or two, please call me at 330-958-3751.  Merry Christmas from The Salvation Army, and on behalf of the families we serve, THANK YOU.
